"Outside of this conference, protesters demanding the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs" - Salome Samadashvili, chairman of the "United National Movement," said in her speech at the international forum in Batumi. The opposition leader explained the motives of protesters and introduced their demands to foreign diplomats.
Salome Samadashvili also talked about the criminal persecution against opposition members. She emphasized that if the government continues to persecute opponents, this will be a huge challenge for Georgia"s European future.
"Outside of this conference there are protesters who demand the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs because a few weeks ago government forces dispersed peaceful actions in the centre of Georgia. I represent a political party whose criminal prosecution has been initiated and a number of other measures are underway. The government claims that the opposition is going to have a violent coup. This is a peaceful demonstration which was promoted the event when Russian duma deputy chairperson took the seat of the parliament of Georgia. If the government continues to persecute political opponents, I think this will be the challenge for Georgia"s European future, " - said Samadashvili.
