We saw this as a violation of Georgian competition law - a statement was made by the head of the Competition Agency. Nodar Khaduri in a telephone conversation with "Courier" explained why the Competition Agency was interested in the statements of companies and associations. The agency is seeking clarification from all distribution managers who spoke about the effects of GEL"s unprecedented devaluation and the expected rise in product prices.
Khaduri said that if business entities, associations confirm that they had an agreement to raise prices, the competition agency would start investigating the companies.
“We saw in this the danger of violating Georgian competition law, since competition law prohibits concerted action, including first of all with regard to prices. That is, the specific plans of the business entities have not been the subject of study by the Competition Agency, we are studying and requesting information on whether there is agreed market action. Only after we receive information, a decision will be made as to where the Competition Agency will go in this field. If associations or business entities confirm that they have an agreement and say let us raise prices together now, then we will start investigating the companies that participated in this agreement, ”Nodar Khaduri said.
