The third president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, responds to a documentary by Imedi, in which the previous government is accused of launching a war in August.
"I am still alive and can tell you exactly what has happened, what were the causes and this has happened many times. But the accusation that we started the war is a clinical idiotism and just sclerosis. .In 2007 there were really protests against us. I opposed them and we won new elections, first, we won the presidential elections and then, in a few months we won the parliamentary elections with a huge advantage and we had a single constitutional majority in the Georgian Parliament. Nothing threatened our government. After Russia exhausted all possibilities of internal destabilization, provocations, after all, when we strengthened our authority, Putin decided to attack Georgia. We didn"t attack them because they attacked us," - Saakashvili said.
The leader of the "United National Movement" said that the initiators of the film are linked to Putin and are carrying out a Russian task.
"I also want to tell those who think this is random and somebody"s self-made. Khaburdzania was Putin"s man, Putin told me personally, Laliashvili was his right hand, Laliashvili is certainly in touch with Russia, just as he is active these days, he was embedded in Georgia for a diplomatic mission, as well as by KGB"s Petre Chkheidze," - Saakashvili said.
According to Saakashvili, the aim of the film is to be proved the guilt of the accusation of Georgian soldiers in Hague.
"The ultimate seizure of our territory, that is, for which they are preparing," - Saakashvili said.
