The Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, Jean-Christophe Belliard calls the detention of monitors of the EU Monitoring Mission a serious incident. That’s why their representative will visit Moscow in order to discuss this incident with Russian colleagues.
As Belliard said, the EU Monitoring Mission facilitates to maintain peace, and the fact that the mission has to cope with such challenges is a serious problem.
“The responsible persons will hold a meeting to find out how and why this incident took place. The stabilizing the situation in this region of Georgia is very important for us. We will continue to work actively in this direction. Our special representative will leave for Moscow to meet with Russian colleagues. We appreciate the Geneva format and efforts to resolve the problem peacefully since the EU is based on exactly these principles. Therefore, we hope that the issue will be resolved peacefully and diplomatic response will be achieved”, – said Jean-Christophe Belliard.
