A few months ago, much of the world was unconcerned with the novel coronavirus outbreak, if they had heard of it at all.
Now, the virus has impacted almost every corner of the globe, and the number of confirmed cases is expected to surpass 1 million any day now, said the World Health Organisation’s director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“As we enter the fourth month since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, I"m deeply concerned about the rapid escalation and global spread of infection.
Over the past five weeks, we have witnessed a near exponential growth in the number of new cases reaching almost every country, territory and area.
The number of deaths has more than doubled in the past week. In the next few days, we will reach 1 million confirmed cases and 50,000 deaths”, - he said.
