The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia responded to the statement of the European Union regarding the Ambassador of Germany.
As it is noted in the statement, “everybody should acknowledge that the Ambassadors are representing their own states in Georgia and attacking them is the equivalent of offending those respective countries”.
“In response to the statement of the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, we, on behalf of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, once again confirm our firm respect towards the accredited diplomatic corps and international missions in our country.
We believe that their good faith and professional activities contribute a big share in building the positive image of Georgia, the development of our country, and friendly relations with partner states and international organizations.
Everybody must understand that the Ambassadors are representing their own states in Georgia and attacking them is the equivalent of offending those respective countries. The activities of the Ambassadors are a very reflection of a strong friendship and partnership which Georgia has established with international society.
This includes Germany with which we have a high-level partnership that has been specially strengthened. Germany played an important role in Georgia’s democratic and economic development. We all remember the firm support of Germany in the first years of our independence, in bilateral and as well as in multilateral formats.
This support continues and strengthens year by year in terms of fundamental issues for us such as sovereignty, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic integration. Therefore, the MFA of Georgia once again condemns the public comments which were made towards the Ambassador of Germany.
Mr. Hubert Knirsch is a worthy representative of his country and serves at a high professional level to deepen the partnership between our countries. We believe that such an insulting and slanderous campaign against the ambassador contributes to inciting anti-Western sentiments in our country.
Such irresponsible actions are unacceptable for the Ministry, which, unfortunately, takes place on the part of politicians, the media, and some members of the public.
On behalf of Georgian diplomats, we express our support to all diplomats working in our country in the implementation of their professional activities”, -reads the statement of the MFA.
