Director General of First Channel Vasil Maglaperidze resigns

The Director General of the First Channel Vasil Maglaperidze steps down. He has already filed the relevant application with the Board of Trustees.


According to Vasil Maglaperidze, since 2017 the First Channel has made significant progress in all directions and such excess was achieved by the high professionalism and teamwork of his colleagues.


“Since 2017, the First Channel has made significant progress in all directions, which was due to the high professionalism and teamwork of my colleagues. We have started producing high quality mega shows, different programs, started shooting serial. In autumn the viewers will see two Georgian serials and this process will continue uninterruptedly.


We have also started making animated films and in the fall the audience will see the first season, a twenty-series Georgian animated film for children.


We continue to make documentaries.


We have already announced the acceptance of the scripts and are starting to make short TV movies.


I can state with full responsibility and any objective observer can be sure that today the Public Broadcaster is as impartial as possible, journalists enjoy maximum freedom, and at the same time have a great responsibility not to provide viewers with unverified or false information.


Even though I am sure that the First Channel will cover the upcoming elections and all other political processes impartially, I decided to resign in order to prevent any doubts about the channel’s impartiality”, - writes Vasil Maglaperidze.


He was appointed as the Director General of Georgia’s the country’s state-funded television network in January 2017.
