The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues intensive investigation on the alleged crimes committed against the children at St. Nino Boarding House for Orphans, Waifs and Children in Need of Care.

“Investigative and procedural activities are held intensively, including interrogation of persons involved in the case. Minors are involved in procedural activities in full compliance of the law and best interests of children. The Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and witness and victim coordinators are involved in the ongoing investigation. Several minors have already been interviewed.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs actively cooperates with the LEPL - Agency of State Care and assistance for the (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking.

Public is already aware of the fact that investigation was initiated on the basis of the information spread by various media sources. Thus, the Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to appeal to all media sources interested in the topic of the boarding school, which may possess interesting and necessary information for the investigation, to cooperate with the investigation and provide the Ministry of Internal Affairs with information that will facilitate the process of prompt and unbiased investigation.

The MIA conducts investigation on the alleged crimes committed against children at St. Nino Boarding School for Orphans, Waifs and Children in Need of Care under the first part of the Article 126 envisaged by the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Considering the public interest, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will periodically inform the public regarding the ongoing investigation”, - reads the statement.
