The MIA issues a statement regarding the ongoing rally on Rustaveli Avenue

The Ministry of Internal Affairs issues a statement regarding the ongoing protest rally on the Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.

“In connection with the ongoing manifestation in the vicinity of the Parliament building, law enforcement officers are mobilized and ensure safety of each citizen.

Participants of the rally are gathered around the building of the legislative body.

Employees of various departments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in order to ensure the safe movement for the members of the Parliament and staff of the legislative body and to avoid artificial escalation of events, are mobilized at the entrances of the legislative body and call on the gathered people to vacate the entrance and exit spaces of the Parliament building.

According to the Law of Georgia "On Assemblies and Demonstrations", it is forbidden to block the entrances of administrative bodies and disrupt their activities, therefore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs calls on the organizers of the manifestation and each participant not to violate the law, follow the instructions of the law enforcement officers and ensure that the rally is held in a peaceful environment.

Each fact of violation will be followed by the response defined by the acting legislation”, - reads the statement.
