An ammunition depot in Russia near the Ukrainian border reportedly caught fire on Wednesday after explosions were heard in the town, writes gazette.com.

The weapons warehouse was located in the village of Staraya Nelidovka, in Russia’s Belgorod region, about 15 miles from the Ukrainian border. No one was injured in the incident, according to the governor of the region.

“Near the village of Staraya Nelidovka, according to preliminary information, an ammunition depot is on fire. There is no destruction of residential buildings, houses. There were no casualties among the civilian population”, - Belgorod Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a message posted on Telegram.

He said that he was awakened to the sound of a blast early Wednesday morning.

“At about 3:35 a.m., I was woken up by a loud sound like an explosion. While I was writing this message, three more explosions sounded”, - added Gladkov.

Russian air defenses in Belgorod were reportedly active before the fire broke out. Video posted on social media of CCTV footage appears to show an anti-aircraft missile attempting to intercept a target.
