SIS launches investigation into unlawful interference with journalistic activities at protest rally

The Special Investigation Service [SIS] launched an investigation into the unlawful interference with journalistic activities of reporters of various TV channels at the opposition rally in Tbilisi.

“The SIS is actively conducting all necessary investigative actions”, adds the statement of the agency.

Under the Criminal Code of Georgia, the unlawful interference with the journalist’s professional activities provides for a fine or community service for a term of 120 to 140 hours or by corrective labour for a term of up to 2 years, or house arrest for a term of 6 months to 2 years. The same act is committed using threat of violence or official position and provides for a fine or imprisonment for up to 2 years, with or without the deprivation of the right to hold an office or to carry out activities for up to 3 years.
