Investigation has been launched into the facts of assisting a foreign and foreign-controlled organizations in hostile activities aimed to undermine state interests - Prosecutor’s Office

On February 8, the Investigative Division of the General Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation under Articles 318(1), 19,318(2), 319 of the Criminal Code of Georgia into cases of sabotage under aggravating circumstances, attempted sabotage, and assistance to foreign and foreign-controlled organizations in hostile activities aimed at undermining Georgia’s state interests.

“The criminal probe was launched based on a statement submitted to the General Prosecutor’s Office by representatives of the public movement United Neutral Georgia, in which they pointed to and noted that the actions of both internal and external actors, particularly in recent developments in the country, reveal a pattern of activities directed against the Georgian state and threatening to Georgia’s constitutional order and security foundations.

Along with the Investigative Division of the General Prosecutor’s Office, relevant units of the State Security Service of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have joined the investigative team to effectively implement appropriate measures and conduct a comprehensive, thorough, and objective investigation.

We will periodically update the public about the progress and relevant legal assessments”, - reads the statement of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia.

According to the agency, the crime carries a punishment of imprisonment from 5 to 10 years and 7 to 15 years.
