
Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, attended the opening ceremony of the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva.
The event - held under the theme All for Health, Health for All - was officially opened by the Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In his opening remarks, he underlined Georgia’s public health achievements, particularly efforts in tobacco control and the successful campaign to eliminate malaria. He also praised the country’s progress in achieving malaria-free status.
During the opening event, the WHO Director-General formally presented Mikheil Sarjveladze with a certificate recognising Georgia as a malaria-free country [a status officially granted to Georgia by WHO in early 2025].
Minister Sarjveladze will deliver a speech at the Assembly. Bilateral meetings with key figures, including Dr. Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, as well as other high-level officials are also scheduled.
