The State Service of Veterans Affairs of Georgia is appealing to the Prosecutorэs Office regarding statements made by former Defense Minister Gia Baramidze concerning the killing of POWs during the Abkhazia war.
Agency Director Koba Kobaladze deemed the accusations anti-state and an insult to combatants and their families, noting the claims suggest internal culpability rather than enemy action.
“We are already obligated to appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office with a request to clarify and establish the truth. This was a reckless, irresponsible, anti-state statement that insulted not only each individual fighting there, but also the family members of every fallen soldier. It is somewhat strange when the opposing side has not accused us of what he, in fact, blamed on his homeland and the personnel fighting for his homeland”, - said Koba Kobaladze.
The former Minister of Defense and Internal Affairs [during the government of the United National Movement first stated in a podcast with Iago Khvichia that Georgian fighters were executing prisoners of war in the Abkhazia war; however, following a sharp reaction from the public, he recorded a video message where he noted that “people were killing” the prisoners].
