Tbilisi City Court has sentenced former senior officials of the Ministry of Defense to pre-trial detention.

The lawyer for all 3 defendants requested a bail of GEL 100,000, but the defense’s motion was not granted.

Former Deputy Minister of Defense Giorgi Khaindrava, former Head of the Procurement Department of the Ministry Vladimir Gudushauri, and Vasil Mkheidze, a relative of the former minister, are accused of abusing their official positions to embezzle and assist in the embezzlement of a large amount of money from the Ministry.

The former Deputy Minister of Defense exercised his right to speak at the trial, while the other two defendants are exercising their right to remain silent.
