August 14 marks the 34th anniversary of the start of the war in Abkhazia

34 years have passed since the outbreak of hostilities in Abkhazia. The war, which began on August 14, 1992, for the unity of Georgia, lasted 13 months and 13 days, and ended on September 27, 1993, with the fall of Sukhumi.

As a result of the war, up to 300,000 citizens of Georgia became internally displaced persons (IDPs), and around 5,000 fighters were killed in action. Hundreds of individuals went missing.

Since this morning, citizens and war veterans have been honoring the Memorial of Heroes Who Fell for the Territorial Integrity of Georgia with flowers.
