For developing amelioration infrastructure, more than GEL 19 MLN worth of projects will be implemented in Telavi Municipality in 2026

Projects, with the cost of more than GEL 19 million are planned in Telavi municipality in 2026 to develop amelioration infrastructure. Out of these, two projects with the cost of GEL 5.6 million are already underway, while the implementation of three capital projects, with a total value of GEL 13.6 million, is planned.

Currently, rehabilitation works are underway on the Ikalto inverted siphon and the Kisiskhevi inverted siphon of Zemo Alazani irrigation scheme, located in the village of Ikalto. Upon completion of the works, water supply will be improved on 6715 ha of agricultural land area.

The three capital projects planned for 2026 include the rehabilitation of the distribution canal of Zemo Alazani irrigation scheme on the territory of the village of Vanta, as well as the rehabilitation of another water distribution canal of Zemo Alazani irrigation scheme. Furthermore, electromechanical equipment of the flushing gates and the apron slab at Kvemo Alazani irrigation scheme will be restored and rehabilitated, and an emergency spillway will be installed.

The implementation of the mentioned projects will improve irrigation water supply to several hundred hectares of agricultural land.

Alongside the capital projects, operation works have also been carried out on the irrigation schemes in Telavi municipality in 2026. A total of 25 km of amelioration canals and 10.5 km of pipelines were cleaned and rehabilitated; two major hydraulic structures were repaired, while 176 various types of hydraulic structures were repaired or replaced.

The works for developing amelioration infrastructure are also underway in other municipalities of Kakheti region. In 2026, four construction and rehabilitation projects have already been completed in the region, 10 projects are currently underway, and the implementation of 16 additional projects is planned. Totally, capital projects worth up to GEL 143 million will be implemented in Kakheti region.

Furthermore, within the operation arrangements in Kakheti region, 180 km of amelioration canals and 15 km of pipelines were cleaned and rehabilitated; three major hydraulic structures were repaired, while 519 various types of hydraulic structures were repaired or replaced. Rehabilitation and operation works of amelioration infrastructure contribute to improving technical condition of irrigation schemes and ensuring stable supply of irrigation water to farmers.
