The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Amy Diaz, visited the Lugar Center last week, which is one of the best examples of U.S.–Georgia cooperation in the field of public health. This information is released by the US Embassy in Georgia.

"Built and equipped with U.S. support, the Lugar Center is part of a network consisting of 20 biolaboratories that the United States created in partnership with Georgia and fully handed over to the Government of Georgia in 2015.

Today, it is managed by the Ministry of Health of Georgia and plays a significant role in the detection and monitoring of infectious diseases. It also contributes to the professional development of Georgian students and scientists.

Within the framework of the visit, Amy Diaz met with the staff of the Lugar Center, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to get acquainted with their important work in protecting public health in Georgia.

During the visit, particular attention was paid to the monitoring of infectious diseases both in Georgia and the region. Their work helps detect threats in a timely manner and inform the U.S. Government and its partners, including the Defense Forces of Georgia and the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, which serves to protect the safety of each of us", - reads the statement.
