Member of the European Parliament, Rebecca Harms assessed the decision of the Supreme Court on Rustavi2 case as step backwards against the progress made by the state.
According to her, the country can not develop in a democratic way if media is not free.
"I must admit that I was shocked, because when I was in the European Parliament together with Georgian journalists working on visa liberalization issues , the court issued a decision on Rustavi2. This is a step backwards and the decision made against the progress achieved by Georgia, "- said Rebecca Harms.
According to the European Parliament member, Rustavi 2 is a TV station which gives possibility to all members of society to express their opinion.
"Rustavi 2 is a broadcaster which allows the opposition and the civil society to have access to the population. Now they worry that they will not have the opportunity to share their views with the general public. The European Parliament is concerned about this, "- said Rebecca Harms.
