Sergey Lavrov expected to arrive in Sukhumi tomorrow - Tbilisi talks about another step towards annexation

Sergey Lavrov is expected to arrive tomorrow in Sukhumi. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov will meet Raul Khajinba. The Russian Minister will take part in the opening ceremony of the Russian Embassy in Sukhumi. Russia"s first diplomat`s trip to Abkhazia is condemned in Tbilisi and assessed as another step towards annexation.

"Such visits have no meaning for the world. The Georgian authorities are doing their best to remind our partners once again, and as a rule, they call on Russia to withdraw their recognition and this matter is always on the agenda, "said Zaza Khutsishvili, member of the Georgian Dream.

The opposition speaks about the softening of the Georgian government`s policy towards Russia, which they claim is the result of Moscow"s activation on the occupied territories.

"This is a continuation of annexation policy. The fact that Moscow behaves like this, is the result of the policy of the Georgian government towards the occupied territories in general, "said Nino Kalandadze, a member of the United National Movement`s political council.

A similar statement was made by the Chairman of Parliamentary fraction Movement for Freedom - European Georgia, Gigi Tsereteli,

"Regardless of the changed policy of the Government towards Russia, no step in response has been observed yet, on the contrary, the situation in the occupied territories has become even worse," Gigi Tsereteli said.
