"It"s important to have no discrepancies in the Constitution" - William Lahue

The country`s security and defense risks and the compliances with these risks of constitutional amendments are discussed in the president`s administration. Together with the defense and security experts, the Head of NATO Liaison Office is also participating in the discussion.

"Implementation of the existing amendments will diminish civil democratic control, damaging balance between the governmental branches, which is especially dangerous for the security sector, and having a fictitious chief commander will actually paralize the national security system, "-said the National Security Council Secretary David Rakviashvili, Assistant to the President of Georgia on Security Issues.

According to William Lahue, the head of the North Atlantic Alliance Liaison Office, the discrepancy in the old Constitution hindered security institutions in preparation for self-defense.

"Support for institutional structures, which enhances the principles of democracy, is important for the democratic development of Georgia and its Euro-Atlantic integration.

Lahue also noted that there are a number of discrepancies in the constitution, which require improvement.

According to him, these discrepancies put national security institutions in a disadvantageous situation in terms of getting ready for the national crises, including a war.

"The constitution will provide clear guidance on how to protect the country and how to prepare for self-defense." All countries must build on their own history, culture and society, and we do not support any kind of governance - whether it"s president or parliamentary. It is important that the constitution be clear, "- said Lahue.
