A friend and colleague of the Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, Khadija Ismailovva,was interrogated in Azerbaijan"s investigative department for several hours. "Courier" has recorded an exclusive interview with her.

According to Ismailovva, the law enforcement officers were concerned about the details of her and Afgan Mukhtarli`s relations.

"I was asked whether I knew Afgan Mukhtarli, what relationship we had, where we worked, whether we were members of any religious or political group, whether I asked him to bring money to Azerbaijan, as well as about Maidan TV. If he has worked there and who paid him money? I answered all the questions, I told that he was my friend and colleague who supported our investigations. As all my friends, he supported me when I was pressured and threatened. Apgan Mukhtarli is an investigative journalist and it is harder to convince the prosecutor to write about his investigations, one of which is related to Aliyev"s property in Georgia. The investigator`s question indicated that Mukhtarli had indeed committed the offense, thus violating the presumption of innocence. This investigation seems to be part of a big accusation that there are illegal funds in journalism and political opposition, "-Khadija Ismailova said.
