The parliament started today to discuss the new edition of the Constitution, but the Georgian Dream plans to approve a draft of the project which is significantly different from the document considered within 4 months.

The main change in the constitution is cutting the president`s powers and change of the presedent`s election rulein 2024, but it also becomes clear that the term of the directly elected president in 2018 will increase by one year, so that the next commander of the country is elected by the newly elected parliament and self-government members.

The president`s administration does not agree with similar changes. The opposition think that the government did not take into consideration the opinion of the Venice Commission, the political forces, the NGOs and the part of the "Georgian Dream" itself.

Members of the "National Movement" boycotted the extraordinary session of the draft constitution. Members of the "Movement for Freedom - European Georgia" will no longer accept the changes.

Constitutionalists evaluate the prolongation of the term of the President as the usurpation of power.
