NGOs will address Federica Mogherini and Johannes Hann regarding constitutional amendments, as well as the European Parliament and the US Department of State. The contents of the open letter of civil society will be announced today.
The letter contains detailed arguments on why it is necessary to abolish the majoritarian system for subsequent elections.
"The government is committed to consolidating its power. We are naturally very concerned about the constitutional reform, that is why we consider it important to provide information to all the parties that are Georgia`s friends, " -said the Executive Director of the International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy, Mikheil Benidze.
Based on the current draft law, the civil society sees the work of the Constitutional Commission as ineffective. The letter will also be sent to the embassies operating in Georgia.
"The last decision on the electoral system and the last stage of the constitutional reform in general is far from consensus. We are trying to inform the international community about the fact so that they are able to create leverage in order not to endanger democracy in Georgia, "- said Zviad Devdariani, Executive Director of Civil Development Agency (CIDA).
