The visit of the President of the Venice Commission to Georgia will be over tomorrow. Today, Gianni Buquicchio met with the President, Parliament`s speaker, majority and opposition representatives to discuss a new project of the Constitution. Gianni Buquicchio has repeatedly expressed frustration over constitutional amendments, but he has expectations that everything will improve.

Speaking to Courier, the Venice Commission president said that they would welcome if the constitution"s new project will take into consideration the recommendations. However, after Gianni Buquicchio arrived in Georgia, the novelty was a change of electoral system.

"The most important element was the postponement of the new electoral system. In my opinion, waiting for 7 years is too much..If all the other recommendations of the Venice Commission will be taken into account , it will be much better, but if inot, it will not be a tragedy, because it is less important than what we are looking for, more pluralism in the Parliament, " - says Gianni Buquicchio.

The Venice Commission President calls on political forces for dialogue and speaks about the need for a broad consensus.

"The crisis is a serious word, but the problem is that there is no dialogue. All political forces need dialogue. A good constitution must be based on a broad consensus. It should not be adopted only by one party. The Constitution should be acceptable to the public and as many parties as possible, " - said Gianni Buquicchio.

Gianni Buquicchio also said that the government has promised to reach consensus and hopes that the majority will go to compromises. Otherwise, the legitimacy of the process is doubtful.

"Legitimacy of the process means sharing this process based on dialogue and consensus," said Gianni Buquicchio.
