New details on the case of Vano Merabishvili were provided by a person convicted in the case of special operation at the tennis court from prison. Former Special Forces officer Giorgi Tsaadze contacted "Rustavi 2" from the Matrosov prison.

He says that he has heard the scandalous story that former senior officials of the Penitentiary Department, Jason Miladze and Giorgi Gulbiani,brought out of the prison cell Merabishvili but later they were arrested together with Giorgi Tsaadze and Irakli Pirtskhalava for participation in the special operation at the tennis court. However, as Tsaadze said that a big deal was made in the prison and they were released in exchange for keeping silence.

Against the backdrop of suspicious circumstances in the case of Vano Merabishvili"s cell, human rights defenders say that the former prime minister should be released soon and the decision should be made as soon as possible.

Similar to Vano Merabishvili"s case, the European Court found that Article 18 of the European Convention was violated in Ilgar Mamedov`s case. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has decided after the European Court judgment and instructed the Azerbaijani authorities to release the leader of the opposition Ilgar Mammadov from imprisonment.
