The non-governmental sector responds to the incident in the club Basiani with a special statement and talks about possible involvement of a political official in the case.

The indirect reference is made to the leader of the faction Georgian Dream Mamuka Mdinaradze, who used to work with the attorney of the accused for years.

"We believe that the case raises certain questions about the court. The developments have once again demonstrated that the justice system faces serious challenges in impartiality and independence, "- the statement reads.

The statement reviews the decision of the City Court judge Badri Shonia who has released in exchange for bail a person accused of a serious crime.

"The suspicions of the case bias are exacerbated by the fact that the accused is a member of the" privileged family "that provides an opportunity in the unhealthy conditones of justice in the country to have impartial proceedings on the case. Ther i a possibility of involvement of a political official.

"In order to eradicate the questions raised in the society on selective justice and interference of political officials in the judiciary system, it is necessary to ensure a thorough, objective and quick investigation of the case," - reads a joint statement of NGOs.

The statement was signed by representatives of Transparency International Georgia, the Young Lawyers Association, Democratic Development Fund and other authoritative organizations.
