Number of universities may be reduced in 2018

Since 2018 the number of universities may be reduced. Higher education institutions will have to meet new standards to get authorization.

The Ministry of Education has sent a list of 7-point criteria to higher education institutions. There are less than 4 months to meet standards in educational institutions. Authorization process will start from May.

According to the new standards, all higher education institutions are obliged to create for employed lecturers the environment necessary for scientific research. The rectors of the universities say that conducting scientific research requires additional financial resources from them.

The new standards proposed by the agency are acceptable for the part of higher education institutions and they think that this will help increase the quality of education.

The Education Quality Development Center suggests that not all the universities can meet the criteria.
