Nothing could jeopardise Georgia’s visa liberalisation as it was the agreement with the European Union based on specific obligations that Georgia is clearly fulfilling. Such a statement made today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
Ilia Darchiashvili’s remarks followed after the resolution of the European Parliament against the Transparency Bill.
“We remember a lot of resolutions of the European Parliament that were baseless and had no legal basis for similar types of resolutions to be adopted in relation to Georgia. First of all, these resolutions were initiated by specific, politically motivated politicians and this was used as a mechanism to harm our Government, our country. Unfortunately, we are dealing with another case.
European integration of Georgia is one of the main foreign policy priorities of our Government. Our Government has done the most to bring our country even closer to the European family, and our citizens know this and have felt the benefits that European integration brings.
As for visa liberalisation [with the EU], this is another manipulation and lie circulating today. Georgia"s visa liberalisation is certainly not in any danger. This is the agreement we have with the European Union, which is based on specific obligations, and Georgia is one of the countries that clearly fulfils these obligations. Every year we have specific reports, where it is clearly seen [in the assessments] that Georgia clearly and consistently fulfils these obligations, and therefore, no political efforts to damage the European perspective of our country will bring results”, - said the Minister.
