Presidential elections will be a new test for Georgia and its democratic development, EU Foreign Ministers say.
The appointment of the second round on a week day was an unpleasant surprise to the head of Lithuania Foreign Ministry.
Linas Linkkevichus was interested in this issue and said that the appointment of the election day really raises certain doubts.
"Elections are always a test of democracy in terms of transparency, how the implementation of reforms is organized that should be irreversible. Because the change of power should not have a negative impact on the motivation of reforms.
Namely what we expect from Georgia in terms of European integration and Euro-Atlantic integration. First of all, the Georgian authorities should take this seriously and responsibly. The test is quite decisive.
- Is the date already scheduled? Then let me add. The date is a bit of a surprise to us. Because mildly speaking, it is unconventional to appoint eletions on a week day. I do not know how much it will contribute to free and transparent participation in the vote. This really raises some doubts, "said Linas Linkevichus, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Vice-PM of the Kingdom of Belgium, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Bige Reinders, thinks that after this election Georgia should further strengthen its integration into NATO and the EU. As regards to the date of the elections, Reinders says that it is up to the country, but the elections in Belgium are always held on a weekend.
