Attack on free media and private bank undermines trust in Georgia entirely - European Parliament responds to TBC Bank case

Attack on free media and private bank undermines not only the government, but also the entire trust towards Georgia - TBC bank scandal was followed by the protest from Brussels. The European Parliament Member Gunnar HÖKMARK says that Europe will monitor the ongoing processes in Georgia and adequately respond to all important issues.
"I am concerned about the situation with banks. I strongly advise the Government of Georgia not to intervene in the management of the bank, which operates on the European market and has relations in Europe. Because if the Georgian government threatens the stability of this bank, it will also threaten the stability of other banking relations. When interfering in independent media activity, putting pressure on an independent bank, or using the economy for political pressure, Europe thinks it undermines trust not only in the Georgian government but in Georgia as well. I can not understand why the Georgian government regularly repeats similar actions, "said the European Parliament member Hokmark.
Representatives of Georgian influential NGOs and party "European Georgia" participated in the discussions in Brussels and the European Parliament.
Leaders of "European Georgia" state that it is very important to get European partners.interested in the issue. According to Giorgi Kandelaki, "it needs no explanations that the Russian Federation will benefit if Anaklia port is not built.
