Debates on Georgia were held in the European Parliament - along with criticism, positive assessments were also heard.
“Brussels must do more - this was said by the chairman of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee. But why should we influence the democratic decision of a sovereign people? We need mutual respect between nations. People have power in Georgia. On December 20, a report was published on Georgia, which states that there was no foreign interference. Brussels is intensifying the interference. For example, many police officers were injured there and Brussels is a participant in the chaos. This is a free country. Georgia wants a Europe that respects its choices. Georgia will not become a colony of Brussels”, - said MEP Thierry Mariani [France] during the debate.
“Brave Georgians have been protesting for more than 50 days against the theft of their European future, despite the brutality and violence of the Georgian Dream government. By the way, people on the streets are calling them the Kremlin Dream, the Russian Dream party. While Georgians are fighting for the European path, it is our duty to be clear in our support: first, the only true and legitimate representative of the Georgian people and the only recognized official is Salome Zourabichvili, second, Georgian Dream and the self-proclaimed one-party parliament are not legitimate authorities. I call on EU leaders, member states and other international organizations to refrain from all actions that would legitimize the self-proclaimed Georgian Dream authorities”, - said Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė said during the debate on Georgia in the European Parliament.
