The Committee on Legal Issues continues to discuss criteria for the appointment of judges. The MPs will once again hear the legislative initiative of the European Georgia which the ruling team refused to support yesterday and voted for the option prepared by Irakli Kobakhidze as the only alternative.
According to the opposition, amendments made by the Chairman of Parliament and his colleagues leave the clan rule in the judiciary for ever.
The ruling team also does not support Eka Beselia"s initiative.The former member of the parliamentary majority is not expected to attend the sitting today, as Eka Beselia estimates that the ruling team tries to make amendments in an expedited mode.
" European Georgia continues to lobby this project. We will introduce our opinion to the society. The next plenary session will show how many MPs support Chinchaladze"s list , "- Otar Kakhidze said.
The parliamentary majority claims that the draft law prepared by Irakli Kobakhidze responds to the requirements of the Constitution of Georgia.
Yesterday, three bills were discussed by the Committee on Procedural Issues for selection of judges of the Supreme Court for 8 hours. The ruling majority vetoed the bill of former teammates and European Georgia and voted for the option prepared by Irakli Kobakhidze"s group.
