The European Commissioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, has declared an effective struggle with organized crime to maintain visa free travel between Georgia and the European Union.
The EU representative is in Washington. In an interview with "Courier", Dimitris Avramopoulos emphasizes that visa-free travel is a privilege for citizens of Georgia, which the citizens and the government must protect together.
"Georgian citizens enjoy visa-free travel in Europe but at the same time bear responsibility to protect this privilege. We are closely cooperating with the Georgian authorities. Priority is an effective fight against organized crime and criminal network. Unfortunately, this issue has discredited Georgians abroad, but the Georgian government cooperates with us and we are happy to see Georgians coming to Europe. Everybody believes in this great European country perspective, "said Dimitris Avramopoulos.
According to Dimitris Avramopoulos, the mechanism of suspension will not be used until the need arises - "before it is not necessary, we will not use a mechanism for stopping a visa-free traveler," the Commissioner said.
