NGOs respond to the findings of the Venice Commission regarding the draft law on selection of judges of the Supreme Court.
The third sector suggested that the ruling team had anticipated that the recommendations of the Venice Commission would be quite strict. NGOs link this fact with the second hearing of the bill in the accelerated manner. The third sector thinks that the recommendations accurately reflect the serious situation in the judiciary and it is necessary to take them into consideration.
Non-governmental organizations and non-judge members of the Council of Justice will hold a meeting with the Chairman of the Parliament.
"They could have had information about a rather critical and hard conclusion, and this was the reason for accelerated consideration of the bill. Now, the last possibility is that after the conclusion of the Venice Commission, this process will come out of the deadlock caused by the wrong steps and decisions of the parliamentary majority, "said Sopho Verdzeuli, director of the Human Rights Education and Democracy Center.
