Georgia will never tolerate Russian occupation - the PM"s statement was made at the solemn session dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Georgia"s membership in the Council of Europe today.
The Prime Minister thanked the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for visiting Georgia.Mamuka Bakhtadze talked about the reforms implemented in recent years and said that these reforms have transformed Georgia into a state of European values.
He said that Georgia took responsibility 20 years ago to carry out democratic reforms.
"Georgia has promised to create an irreversible democratic state. Strengthen the rule of law, implement judicial reforms, fight corruption, torture and improper treatment, guarantee freedom of media and expression and promote human rights. We can say that today Georgia is moving forward in all these directions.
This is possible as a result of cooperation and close communication with various bodies of the Council of Europe, "- said the Prime Minister.According to Mamuka Bakhtadze, today Georgia is close to Europe as never before. But he said, "there are still forces that are trying to stop Georgia."
"The Russian Federation continues to occupy 20% of Georgia, this is our most painful challenge, it is a painful challenge for Europe.According to the Prime Minister, Georgia will never accept Russian occupation and he is sure that the international community will not accept the occupation in Georgia.
