Decision on Georgia - Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe recognizes Russia as a party in the 2008 conflict

Another decision of the Committee of Ministers" Deputies of the Council of Europe on Georgia - A document that, along with political has a serious legal importance, regards the grave situation in the occupied regions of Georgia.
It is underlined that the military presence of the Russian Federation threatens regional peace and security in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia, violates international obligations.
It is about the 12 August 2008 ceasefire agreement signed by the EU mediator and the document clearly states that the current conflict is between two member state of the Council of Europe -Russia and Georgia.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia says the decision made is of utmost importance.
"We condemn the impunity that is related to the killing of our citizens. The document mentions the cases of Otkhozoria, Tatunashvili, Basharuli and Irakli Kvaratskhelia. It is also important that there is a call on the Russian Federation to fulfill the obligations imposed by the 2008 ceasefire agreement and what is also important is that the Russian Federation is recognized as the side of the conflict, "Zalkaliani said.
