"The lifetime appointment allows the judge to be more independent" - the parliamentary majority against Beselia"s initiative

The members of the parliamentary majority respond to the initiative of the former teammate Eka Beselia regarding collecting signatures for the constitutional amendments . It is about 200 thousand signatures that are required to change the rule of appointment of life-term judges.Former Eka Beselia"s initiative is unclear for MPs from the parliamentary majority.
Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee Anri Okhanashvili says that lifetime appointment of the judges is the guarantee of their independence and the law on their approval complies with international standards .
Archil Talakvadze, the leader of the parliamentary majority, says he does not know about Beselia"s initiative, but thinks that the legislation will be properly regulated by judges. Moreover, Talakvadze said that the selection of judges was approved by the US Congress.
"We have adopted the law on the Court, the recommendations of the Venice Commission are also reflected and the selection of judges will be discussed in the Parliament," said Talakvadze.
