The Prosecutor"s Office has been a bit too late - Eka Beselia has responded to the special operation in Batumi and the detention of former and current high-ranking officials. According to the MP, there has long been talking about the existence of corruption deals in different municipalities and the response was a bit delayed.
"The fact that today is a professional day of the Prosecutor and one of the biggest detentions takes place today may be coincidental. But on the other hand, I do not know the details of the accusation but it is natural that I can not judge a particular accusation but when the current and former officials of such office are detained on corruption charges, this is a very serious case. There have been talks about corruption not only in Adjara but in other municipalities and I think the response was too late, "Eka Beselia said.
A special operation was held in Batumi recently. Former and current high-ranking officials of the City Hall are detained. The former mayor of Batumi Giorgi Ermakov is among the detainees. The case concerns the abuse of power and embezzlement of a large amount of state property.
