Despite the request of lawyers, the Committee of Ministers has not discussed the issue of Merabishvili"s release from prison

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe still assesses the process of execution of the Strasbourg Court"s decision on Ivane Merabishvili"s case - a statement is released by the Ministry of Justice.

The statement reads that on June 5, 2019, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe discussed the issue of execution of the Grand Chamber of the Strasbourg Court on Ivane Merabishvili"s case.

The Committee reiterated the measures the Government of Georgia pursued for the execution of the Strasbourg Court decision. The statement says that despite the request of lawyers, the Committee of Ministers did not discuss the issue of Merabishvili"s release at all.

The statement released by the Ministry of Justice also says that further discussion of Merabishvili"s case will not be held at the meeting in September 2019 and the Committee of Ministers will return to it later.
