President of Georgia discussed the issue of IDPs with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

The President of Georgia met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. Salome Zourabichvili discussed the issues of IDPs and refugees at the meeting with Filippo Grandi. According to the president"s administration, the topic of discussion was the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia.
Filippo Grandi has highly appreciated the program for providing IDPs with housing. It was noted at the meeting that the issue of asylum seekers and their integration is a new challenge for Georgia.
The President of Georgia expressed hope that this issue will be solved with the support of international organizations.
"We talked about refugees seeking asylum in Georgia, as well as our readiness to continue our cooperation with Georgia and strengthen the shelter system, talked about internally displaced persons, positively assessed the program that was created to support IDPs.
" Of course, this solution of this problem is a political decision. We are a humanitarian organization and at any time we are in the service of the people. Finally, we have discussed Georgia"s global role, there is an agreement on refugees that is supported by the UN. At the end of the year, the Geneva Global Forum-Ministerial is planned to be held in Geneva and I call on Georgia to remain in the international arena again, "said Filippo Grandi .
