Beka Basilaia decided to stay in custody as a sign of solidarity

The hearing of Beka Basilaia"s case on Rustaveli Avenue was postponed for tomorrow. The Tbilisi Court of Appeal Satisfied Basilaia"s solicitation - the lawyer protested against the detention of dozens of people by law enforcers at the rally of 20 June and demanded to remain in custody as a sign of solidarity.
If the Court of Appeals fails to examine the case of other persons till 11:00 am, Basilaia says that he will take remain in custody.
Beka Basilaia was sentenced to 14-day administrative imprisonment on June 21.
"I think that as detention and subsequent imprisonment from the very beginning, even today, this trial is a part of the political process. But this issue has a second important component - on that night hundreds of people were detained by the police. Today, as I know, the Court of Appeal has examined about 20 cases, until all of them are not released from the temporary detention isolator, the hearing should be postponed"-Basilaia said.
