Levan Vasadze demands the punishment of journalists. The radical millionaire, who is constantly trying to protect his own ideas, is now making a new request.
Businessman Levan Vasadze calls on Bidzina Ivanishvili, Chairman of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, and the government of Georgia to develop regulations for media.
Levan Vasadze has released a video address, calling for urgent development of the mechanisms for media regulations to punish media outlets and journalists for defamation and insult.
"I would like to address Bidzina Ivanishvili and our government. It is necessary to urgently set up a [media] regulator that will severely punish media outlets and journalist for defamation and insult, including for insulting religious and traditional feelings. We can not develop any economy and stability under such weak, abandoned media policy,” Levan Vasadze said.
According to him, the strictest media regulator should be composed of principal, national, and impartial people who will not take bribes and control the work of the Georgian TVs.
The civil sector thinks that the government is behind this idea of Vasadze, as practice shows that often the head of a radical group says what is in the government"s interest. There has been a number of recent statements by Georgian Dream leaders about the willingness to regulate the media, and there is reasonable doubt that in this case, the government is testing public opinion on legalizing censorship.
