Georgia"s Independence and Territorial Integrity - The UN Security Council adopted a statement in support

The situation in Georgia was discussed at a closed session of the UN Security Council. After the meeting, 7 countries made a joint statement for the media, in which they spoke about the August 2008 war. The statement underlined support for Georgia"s independence and territorial integrity.
It was also noted that 11 years have passed since the signing of the August 12 agreement and there has been no tangible progress in resolving the conflict during this period.
"At our request, at the UN, our partner states have raised the issue of the August war. The statement reiterated its support for Georgia"s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Also, Russia"s failure to comply with the August 12 agreement. Great concern has been expressed. The demand that displaced persons and refugees should be returned was reiterated, "- Kakha Imnadze, Permanent Representative of Georgia to the United Nations.
