Death of a woman who lived in Akhalgori is yet another signal about the current disturbing situation – Carl Hartzell, EU Ambassador to Georgia said about the death of a 70-year-old woman in Akhalgori.
According to him, the refusal to give the permission for crossing the so-called administrative border line became the reason of the woman’s death.
“First of all I would like to express condolence to the deceased woman’s family. Members of the EUMM were at present to probe into the matter… We will continue pressuring to achieve opening of Akhalgori passes. We hope that relevant institutions and representatives will be constructive in these efforts”, - said Hartzell.
Margo Martiashvili, who suffered a stroke in the Russian-controlled Akhalgori district, has died in the hospital of occupied Tskhinvali as her relatives were unable to transport her to the Tbilisi-controlled territory via the shortest route due to the closure of the so-called border. Matriashvili lived in the village of Ikorta, Akhalgori, which has been isolated from the rest of Georgia for about two months due to the current tension at the villages of Tsnelisi and Chorchana.
