Meeting of Holy Synod to be held today – the session will be held without some influential bishops

The sitting of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church will be held today, October 31. The Patriarchate announced on Tuesday evening that the decision about the summoning of the sitting was made by Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.


The Synod will not be attended by Archbishop Gregory, who publicly demands recognition of the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church by the Patriarchate.

In addition, after the meeting, the new Head of the Kutaisi-Gaenati Diocese, should also be announced. According to Kurieri, the Patriarch will present to the Synod members two nominees - Archbishop Ioane Gamrekeli and Archbishop Melchisedek.

Also, the Holy Synod would decide whether or not the issue of Bishop Iakob should be discussed by the Georgian Church. Bishop would attend the meeting since his is its member.
