The international community, including Ukraine, condemns the elections in the occupied Tskhinvali region

The international community, including Ukraine, condemns the elections in the occupied Tskhinvali region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine says that the “elections” are aimed at legitimizing the occupation of part of Georgia’s sovereign territory by the Russian Federation and that the so-called voting is against international law and will have no legal consequences.

“Given that the Russian military continues to invade Ukraine, the conduct of illegal elections in the occupied territories of Georgia by Russia can significantly worsen the security situation in the Black Sea region and create a further basis for new aggression against Georgia”, - reads the statement.

We do not recognize the constitutional and legal framework of the so-called “presidential elections”, the German Foreign Ministry said.

“The federal government stands firmly by Georgia in terms of its sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. We consider this “election” and its outcome to be illegitimate, as well as any other decision made by the de facto South Ossetian government that violates Georgia’s territorial integrity”, - the German Foreign Ministry says in its statement.
