American Corner opens at Ozurgeti Public Library - Kelly Degnan attends event

American Corner opens at Ozurgeti Public Library. The US Ambassador to Georgia attended the event.

“I am so happy to be here in Ozurgeti, back in Guria. For the third time on this important occasion, which is the opening of the American shelf here at the library in Ozurgeti. This is a great way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Georgia and the United States. For 30 years, we’ve been working together on all the different areas that are important to building Georgia’s democracy, to making sure that the economy keeps growing so that there are good jobs for Georgians. And one of the ways we like to do this is by supporting the youth of Georgia. This American shelf is one way that we can give something to the town of Ozurgeti, through American language books, and to provide a place for youth to come and learn about America - maybe make some friends practice their English, and who knows, maybe get some ideas for the next big startup in Georgia”, - said Kelly Degnan.

American Corners are small, American-style community centers located in libraries and other public spaces. They operate through joint partnerships to promote cooperation and understanding between the people of the United States and Georgia by providing accurate information about the U.S. Access to American Corners and their collections are free and open to all interested Georgians of all ages.
