The substantive review of Davit Gareji’s case continues in the Tbilisi City Court. At today’s session, 1 witness presented by the prosecution - Giorgi Svanadze, a former employee of the State Security and Crisis Management Council, is being questioned.

The defense side claims that none of the witnesses questioned so far could prove the guilt of Iveri Melashvili and Natalia Ilychova.

The Prosecutor’s Office arrested Melashvili, Head of the Border Relations Service of Department of Neighboring Countries and Ilychova, Chief Inspector of the Land Border Defense Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia on October 7, 2020. The investigation was launched on August 17, 2020, based on written information received from the Ministry of Defense of Georgia regarding the activities of the Government Commission on Delimitation and Demarcation of State Borders of Georgia.
