European Union presents new project to support Public Defender’s Office of Georgia

The European Union held a presentation of the project “Support to the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia”.

The goal of the project is to strengthen the capabilities of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia in order to facilitate the establishment of a fair and transparent legal system in Georgia. This initiative will help protect human rights and the rule of law in the country.

“Through this project, we want to strengthen the Public Defender’s Office and promote the protection of human rights in Georgia”, - Public Defender Levan Ioseliani said during delivering his welcome speech at the event.

According to the Ambassador of the European Union Pawel Herczynski, “The launch of this project is another step forward for the cooperation between the EU and the Public Defender. This cooperation is based on the deep belief that a strong and independent Public Defender’s Office will encourage the development of an inclusive and just society in Georgia”.

The project will be implemented for 24 months, with a budget of GEL 4000 000. It aims to develop training programmes for various departments and structural units of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, which will ensure the highest standard of their activities in the future.

"Study programmes will equip the Public Defender’s Office with the necessary tools and knowledge, which will help to conduct activities effectively and efficiently," said Ivelina Dilovska, representative of DAI consortium.

Technical support includes awareness-raising and public relations activities. The project aims to develop a communication strategy of the Public Defender of Georgia, which will promote public relations activities on the one hand and close cooperation with citizens and civil society organizations on the other hand.

According to the leader of the team, Giorgi Tughushi, who presented the project plans, the activities carried out within the framework of the project will allow the Public Defender’s Office to conduct its activities efficiently and as transparently as possible.

The project will be implemented under the leadership of the DAI consortium and in cooperation with the EGERIA Solutions consulting company.
